Recently, Albany Hills State School hosted the annual Maths Tournament for Years 5 & 6 in the auditorium with 39 teams participating from 14 schools across Brisbane.
There were two parts. The first was the team event, where teams of five worked together to answer 10 questions in 45 minutes. When this event finished, Albany Hills C were in first place, with Rainworth C second and Albany Hills D and 6 other teams tied for third place.
Next was the relay, where teams were split into pairs with a reserve and the pairs worked on questions seeking correct answers prior to moving onto the next question. There were a total of 20 questions over an hour and teams were tasked with answering as many as possible correctly.
The questions ranged from easy, to moderately difficult to very hard.
At the end of the tournament, McDowall A and Rainworth A tied for first place, Brisbane Central A were second and McDowall C came third. The Albany Hills teams were placed: Team A 17th, Teams B and D 15th and Team C 11th.
It was a challenging day for the participants having to work as a team against tough mathematical problems and time limits.
Thank you to the organisers and the parents for helping. It was a great day and lots of fun was had by all involved.
