Nomination and Selection Process
Citizenship Awards
Year 6 classroom teachers will identify students within their classes who meet the established criteria for each award in the citizenship category.
Input and recommendations will also be sought from specialist teachers and other staff to ensure that consideration is given to each student's contribution and conduct across the broader school environment.
Following this initial identification process, Year 6 teachers will consult with the Deputy Principal and Principal regarding potential recipients.
A series of collaborative discussions will then be conducted to:
- consider nominations against the established award criteria;
- review information and recommendations provided by classroom and specialist teachers;
- shortlist suitable candidates;
- discuss the relative strengths and contributions of shortlisted students; and
- determine the most appropriate recipient(s) for each award.
The final recipients will be determined through this collaborative process, with the aim of ensuring that awards are presented fairly, consistently and in accordance with the intended criteria of each award.
Academic Awards
Academic Achiever Award
Recipients of the Academic Achiever Award will be determined primarily through consideration of students' achievement in summative assessment tasks in English and Mathematics throughout Year 6.
Assessment results will provide an objective basis for identifying students who have demonstrated the highest level of academic achievement across these key learning areas.
Language Learner Award
The Japanese Language Learner Award will recognise a student who has demonstrated a high level of achievement, engagement and commitment to the study of Japanese.
Consideration will be given to:
- academic achievement in Japanese;
- participation and engagement during Japanese lessons;
- involvement in relevant extracurricular activities;
- demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for learning Japanese; and
- commitment to language learning more broadly.
Presentation of Awards
Recipients of the Year 6 End-of-Year Awards will be announced at the Year 6 Farewell evening, held during the final week of the school year.
Awards will be formally presented to recipients at the event. Where applicable, award sponsors will be invited to present the award and associated prize to the successful recipient.
The presentation of these awards provides an opportunity for the school community to formally acknowledge and celebrate the achievements, contributions and personal qualities of Year 6 students as they conclude their primary schooling at Albany Hills State School.
