BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop)

Year 5 and 6

BYOL is a program that will allow students who have suitable personal laptops to bring them to school to use for educational purposes to meet their learning needs under the direction of their teacher.

The Albany Hills State School BYOL program is an extension of the Department of Education’s BYOX (Bring Your Own Device) program. It was first trialled in Year 5 only in 2014 with great success. It was then extended to Year 6 in 2015 and from 2016 is one of the distinctive offerings of our school for students in Years 5 and 6. In future years the program may be extended to other year levels.

Albany Hills State School has a future vision, aiming to be proactive in incorporating eLearning strategies to engage and empower all learners (students and teachers) and preparing them to contribute confidently, effectively and innovatively within existing and emerging global communities. The BYOL program is a key element in this vision.

Students selected to participate in the BYOL Program will be given agreement forms to complete.

Bilingual Program

Year 1

The Albany Hills State School Language Specialist Team is planning a bilingual program for Year 1 2017. Two Year 1 classes will participate. These two classes will have two classroom teachers:  their regular English speaking teacher three days and a Japanese language specialist teacher two days a week.

The program will implement CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teaching methodology in the maths and science subject areas.

Year 1 has been selected for this new initiative because they have become familiar with the school routine and are at an age when they can readily pick up a new language in a more fluent manner.

More information can be found in our document library.

Students are allocated to RI based on information provided by parents on the completed Application for Student Enrolment (PDF, 3698 KB) unless other written instructions have been provided to the school.

Note: This information remains operational unless the parent informs the school otherwise in writing.
Students who are not participating in RI will be provided with other instruction in a separate supervised location. Other instruction must relate to part of a subject area already covered in class and may include, but is not restricted to:
personal research and/or assignments
revision of class work such as creative writing or literacy and/or numeracy activities which could include online programs currently accessed by the students of that school (i.e. Mathletics, Reading Eggs)
wider reading such as independent reading appropriate to the student

Parents will be advised of any changes to the RI and other instruction programs to ensure they are able to make an informed decision on their child’s participation.
