Japan trip

Albany Hills students were in the news in Japan!

Translation:

The students are from Brisbane and are connected to Kagoshima through a sister-school agreement with Kamoike primary school. It’s the AHSS student’s turn to visit and experience what it’s like living in Japan.

On Sep 20, they visited a local Sushi bar and made “futomaki”. Most of them seemed to enjoy the flavours in the “futomaki” sushi.

There were 16 year 5 and 6 students from Albany Hills State School. They arrived in Kagoshima Sep 14. The trip gives an opportunity for children to experience a homestay and do sightseeing around Japan. Making sushi is a great way for the students to experience authentic Japanese cuisine. The manager of the sushi bar Mr Kubone enjoyed instructing the kids. They were packing in ingredients like prawns and cucumber with hands full of sticky rice. Most of them managed to roll their sushi. Indianna aged 11, said she would like to try teaching her family how to make this style of sushi when she returns home to Australia. Olivia aged 12 while pointing to the fish tank in front of him, said “It’s fun but I feel sorry for those fish.”

The two schools started visiting each other in 1994. For various reasons such as SARS, the exchanges did not take place from 2003 but resumed again in 2014.
